VIET NAM | BURMA/MYANMAR | CAMBODIA | THAILAND

BURMA/MYANMAR
Burma is often described as a country only 30
minutes from Bangkok yet one that is more than 30 years back
in time. Despite the political situation, charities can still
help the Burmese people.
GCSF has assisted with the construction
and renovation of facilities, developing access to clean
water, and providing materials such as medicines, medical
and school supplies, and clothing.
SHAN STATE
Situated in the Shan State is Inle Lake,
one of the country's most popular tourist areas. Many
visitors witness only the beauty of the lake and the deluxe
hotels. Yet, less than a half-mile away people live in
poverty.
A clinic in Burma has now completed its
main building, a woman’s wing, an operating room,
x-ray room, laboratory, and blood testing facility. A
donor has also committed to supply medicine for at least
one more year. GCSF, along with other organizations, continues
to seek funding for additional medicines and equipment
for this and other private health facilities. We also
hope to help with training by sending professional medical
workers to volunteer their expertise for a week or two
at the clinic.
It is estimated that
Burma spends less than $1 per person a year on medical
care. Your donations will allow GCSF to purchase medicine
and medical equipment to relieve the suffering of
the Burmese.

Bagan
Bagan is the most wondrous sight of Myanmar.
Across 40 square kilometers of country stretching back
from the Ayeyarwady River stand thousands of pagodas and
temples. In their shadows, poverty is the way of life,
for this is the dry zone, where starvation is common.
Bagan lies in the area known as the “dry
zone” of Burma – where over 60% of the population
is seriously malnourished or starving. In this region,
GCSF supports schools with school and hygiene supplies,
educational seminars, and teacher assistance.

Schools
& Educational Assistance
Primary education is
not yet a priority for most rural families. Even
if a child does have the family support necessary
to go to school, there may not be a school to attend.
Over the past few years, GCSF has helped to build
or renovate a number of rural community primary
schools. GCSF has also provided water purification
equipment and other supplies to improve health conditions.
Integral to the projects, primary school locations
have also received additional assistance to complete
much-needed wells and latrines to complete much-needed
wells and latrines.
Currently, GCSF is providing
school and hygiene supplies to the students. Volunteers
are needed to assist teachers, especially in english
language instruction.

These primary
schoolgirls will benefit
from the improved facilities and
better educational resources that
GCSF is bringing to their community. |

of the new Bagan schools, built by GCSF donors,
